Even the cleanest home contains many thousands of dust mites, but unfortunately one of their favourite places is in beds and bedding materials.  The average person losses around 10 grams of dead skin cells every week and it is this dead skin dander, that is the main food supply for those tiny creatures.  If you have dogs or cats, the dead skin cells from your pets only helps to make the problem worse.

Dust mites thrive in warmer temperatures, so the problem can be much worse in a house that is kept warm, or in a room that is particularly humid.  Beds, sheets and mattresses are their favourite habitat, partly because of the amount of dead skin cells found there; and partly because sweat also attracts them.  Although the bed is their favourite habitat, dust mites also like to live in other warm places around your home, such as rugs, carpets and furniture.

We recommend having your mattress cleaned at lest once or twice a year, especially if you have allergies or asthma.  This will effectively get rid of mites, their droppings and discarded skin they leave behind.
